What's up with the red forehead?

While Impldoll has over the years done very classic face-ups for their dolls, the new more realistic trend has entered into their repertoire as well. With Octavia, Acorn and Sophia Impldoll introduced more texturing to their face-ups. It will please a great many BJD folks, I'm sure. I, however, prefer my dolls the classic style and have been a great fan of the Impldoll face-ups in the past. I certainly hope they will continue to offer classic styles as well!

I've been somewhat baffled about the realism trend in general. BJD dolls with their often exaggarated features and proportions seem to defy the whole concept of realism more often than not, and it's very rarely that I would have thought a realistic face-up truly works on a BJD. There are some truly successful examples of the realistic, textured style face-up works as well, and usually this style has been applied to realistic, very human like sculpts with subtlety and discretion. Unfortunately, this is not always the case however...

At first it was the revolution of moles in the BJD realm. Big, dark, multiple moles on the fair porcelain like resin of BJD's. Now it's not just a mole and it's friends, it's legions of moles, and not just on the faces, but on the bodies too. More moles than I've ever really seen on humans. I've seen freckles on human's faces. Though rarely so prominent and dark and large as I see on BJD's faces. Freckles in BJD scale, would be next to invisible actually and not so dark usually.

But the newest trend, the red forehead - wow, that's strange. Why is it red? I've never really seen people with red foreheads. I've seen rosy cheeks in the winter, red noses for what ever reason, heck, even a full on red face after someone's been out in an icy blizzard. But red forehead? If it's not a rash, or bruise from head butting then I just can't come up with a reason why a person's forehead would turn red. Is it some exotic new disease that hasn't reached my corner of the world yet?

Why are these things on BJD's faces? Wouldn't any normal person want to put some foundation on those kind of things, was one to discover such on their own face? Why would one want to see it on a very expensive doll's face? Maybe I'm oldfashioned, but I like my dolls pretty. I like pretty pretty things.

What's next, acne? ROFL!!
