Idol Chad Project Day 1 & 2
Yesterday I started sewing something for my upcoming Chad already. My bearded Gnaeus was graciously helping me by modelling. I'll need two types of clothes for Chad; some for the fantasy Yeti version and some for the human version. I haven't done any fabric shopping yet, so started out with some random stuff that I happened to have in my stashes.

I wanted to make legging type pants and a felt vest for Chad, both of which I needed to draft a new pattern for. I tested the new pants pattern first with a beige fabric, but the pants became too large and a tad too long in the trouser leg. They look like sweatpants! Boohoo. The tester vest was also from a light beige fabric, but the shape was off on the sides. I may be able to salvage the vest yet, but I need to take it in from the side quite a bit.

I revised both of the patterns and used a bit thicker grey felt for the new vest and darker brown for the pants. This time the fit was a lot better on each (in pic). The felt vest is super easy to make with just 4 seams. I used a decorative stitch to embellish the vest and give a more ethnic feel. The stitch also makes the vest more firm. I need to buy white felt for another vest like this, but I'll want to enlarge the pattern a bit, so that I can put hook closures for it in the front.
The pants are a pretty decent fit now. I still left a lot of trouserleg, so that when the Idol boys bent their knees to sit, the pants will stay down to cover the ankles.
I re-adjusted the vest pattern yet again for a faux fur vest. I cut out the pieces for that, plus leg and arm warmers. I tested how my sewing machine would react to the faux fur and finished a simple trial pair of arm warmers.
